Naval Shipyard Limited (NSL) has a rich history dating back to 1963, when it was founded by Messrs Witt and Busch as a small boat building and repair yard. In April 1990, the Nigerian Navy acquired the yard with a vision to develop local capacity in ship and boat building, as well as maintenance. This strategic acquisition aims at enhancing the Navy’s operational capabilities by providing the engineering hub required to sustain and build vessels, thereby acting as a force multiplier for naval and maritime operations.

As a subsidiary of Navy Holdings Limited (NHL), NSL has evolved to operate commercially, ensuring sustainability, and supporting the Nigerian Navy’s operations. Despite facing challenges, the yard has made significant contributions to the development of Nigeria’s maritime sector and the operations of the Nigerian Navy. The continued upgrade of the Shipyard has provided the needed facilities for her participation in the oil and gas industry. Our commitment to human capacity development is evident in our employment and training programs for Nigerian Navy personnel and civilians.
